El Palo Alto☆

Hi, this is Shire. Thank you very much for coming to my room again!

Some of you (especially those Apple fans) may know the name of this city, Palo Alto which is located in the heart of Silicon Valley and where Steve Jobs used to live. As a matter of fact, I also happen to live in the city (of course, my physical body).

By the way, the header image today is an aerial photo of Palo Alto by Mac Gaither on Unsplash.

I’ve been living in the city for about 20 years, but I had no idea where the name came from or any story behind the name “Palo Alto (the tall stick in Spanish)” until I found this article in NY Times: The Unlikely Survival of the 1,081-Year-Old Tree That Gave Palo Alto Its Name (June 29, 2021).

So, the city is named after the tree called “Tall Stick = El Palo Alto.” Oh, my, Goodness!! If you are my long-time reader, you know how much I’ve been attached to redwoods & its forest!! This 20 years I’ve lived in the city under the name of this great redwood tree (El Palo Alto is also the symbol of Stanford University), and I didn’t know it at all!

I finally visited and said hi to El Palo Alto today. He is pretty cool and calm as you see the photos I’ve taken today. I am happy to share the photos with you.
